What to Do and Where to Start: A Disability Advocacy in Medicine Primer

This interactive presentation will go over the basics of advocacy in academia. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following concepts: an overview of organized medicine, an explanation of the AMA policy cycle and how research and education work can be advocacy.

 

Speaker Bio:

Nora Newcomb, BA is a national student-leader in the realm of disability advocacy. She is currently a third-year medical student at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine and serves as an Associate Director for Medical Students with Disability and Chronic Illness National, a student-led advocacy organization with over 30 institutional chapters and more than 300 members. Nora’s work focuses on the inclusion of medical students with disability and chronic illness in undergraduate medical education, and disability-focused training in medical education.
