This month’s theme is “disclosure.” You will have the opportunity to reflect on your lived experiences disclosing disability status in small and large groups, and to consolidate the collective knowledge of the DM3P community about how to handle disclosure in one’s professional journey.  

Disclosure

The meeting will be jointly hosted by DM3P and our guest co-facilitators from the “Alone in the Ring” theater group, part of the Inclusive Campus Project at the University of British Columbia. In addition to co-facilitating, the theater group will also use lessons shared during the session to inspire original, fictional disclosure scenarios that they will present at the upcoming SMADIE Conference on Disability in Medicine and Healthcare for educational purposes. They have promised to keep your specific stories confidential, and to ensure that any fictional scenarios they write will not single out anyone from our community. In addition, you will have the option to tell our guests not to include your perspectives in their work. Your decision will not affect your ability to participate in the evening’s activities.  

Alone in the Ring is a groundbreaking play that used a methodology called research-based theater to dramatize the findings of a 3-year study about the barriers and facilitators for people with disabilities in healthcare (i.e., the Inclusive Campus Project).
