Event Description

In this online seminar, DM3P Board members Peter Poullos, MD, Ken Sutha, MD/PhD, and Suchita Rastogi, PhD, presented on a panel moderated by Zoey Martin-Lockhart and Joe Kim, MD, MBA. The panelists answered community members’ questions about navigating medicine with a disability. Topics covered included disclosure of disability status during residency applications, the accommodations process during residency, what to do when your rights are infringed upon in training, assessing when to step away from clinical training, and principles of disability justice and cross-movement allyship. The panelists also shared their own disability identities, journeys through medicine, and experiences co-founding DM3P. They ended with the hopeful message that people with disabilities can succeed in medicine.

Please note that this presentation occurred before January of 2024. For this reason, many of the panelists reflections on the landscape of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts across the United States are now out of date.
