Event Description

Dr. Caroline Bowman, MD, CCFP, FCFP, is a family physician based in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada. She was diagnosed with MS in 2017 and has made significant changes to her work and personal life to manage fatigue. One of the most challenging and unexpected parts of her illness experience has been the feeling of shame related to being unable to keep up with the demands of running a family practice. Caroline has done a lot of personal work to understand shame, reflect on the role of shame in medicine, and to work through tools for shame resilience. She has been teaching about shame for 6 years, and has been told by several residents that learning about shame has changed their lives. Caroline believes all physicians (and all humans for that matter) could benefit from learning about this difficult topic, and is looking forward to exploring this in an interactive session with the DM3P group.
