How I disclosed in medicine

Meeting Description:

It was on Wednesday, February 21^st from 5:00–6:30 PM PST, for the monthly virtual Disability in Medicine Mutual Mentorship Program Meeting. The speaker discussed her journey to becoming a social media influencer and how she chose to disclose both publicly online and in her applications to residency.  This led to a broader discussion of disclosure and members  discussed and practiced disclosure in small groups.  Each group practiced or discussed disclosure in a different context – interviews, coworkers, supervisors and patients/clients.

Speaker Bio:

Stephanie Moss is a trauma-informed advocate, health disparities activist, Endometriosis and Infertility warrior, and a 4th year Medical Student pursuing her Medical Doctorate (M.D.) at Rush Medical College in Chicago. Through her lifelong dedication to diversity, health equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) she has striven to be a voice for marginalized communities. Stephanie shares her experiences through her engaging writing and public speaking, with her work being featured on notable platforms such as MedPageToday, The Endometriosis Foundation, KevinMD, Doximity, American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA), and the Illinois Academy of Family Medicine Physicians. Additionally, she has created medpsycmoss.com, a website that hosts her blog, podcast “Life as a Patient-Doctor”, and provides a wide range of trauma-informed resources for both patients and healthcare providers.

Meeting Agenda:

• 10 to 15 min: program introduction
• 30 min: Stephanie’s didactic
• 15 min: Q and A and large group discussion
• 5 min: break and transition to zoom rooms
• 25 to 30 min: small group discussion/practice
